My name is Mrs. Vial, and I am the school counselor at Lake Pontchartrain Elementary. At LPE, my main goal is to cultivate the academic, personal/social, and career development of our students and help them become responsible, productive, focused, and enthusiastic learners.
I earned a master’s degree in counselor education from Southeastern Louisiana University. I am a NCC (National Certified Counselor), NCSC (National Certified School Counselor), LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), and LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist). This is my 13th year at LPE!
I teach classroom lessons on topics such as personal safety, decision making, study skills, bullying, character education, and expressing feelings. These lessons help students make good choices in and out of school. I am also here to help students who are facing particular difficulties through individual or small group counseling. Family disruptions such as illness, death, or divorce may affect children at school. I collaborate and consult with teachers and parents and can make referrals to community agencies.
Counselors address these 3 competencies:
- Personal-Social Development: who we are and how to effectively interact with others
- Career Development: what and how to plan for life after school
- Academic Development: realize achievement potential while in school
Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you face-to-face as well. Parents can call the school during school hours to set up a meeting with the counselor. Students can request counseling or may be referred by parents, teachers, or administrators.
I am here to help! I hope the efforts of the LPE staff help to make this year a productive one for everyone!
